Additional Needs

Jesus calls his followers to welcome everyone in because everyone is equal under God. Here at St Mary’s we aim to do the same. This includes working with adults, children and families to break down the barriers which may stand in the way of attending services and groups.

As a starting point we can offer:

– Visual timetables (in advance and on the day)
– Choosing boards (with PECS symbols)
– Sensory items / fidget items
– Noise reducing headphones
– Sand timers for transition
– Visits to the church prior to events to gain familiarity / identify any potential trigger points

Within our church we also have a wheelchair accessible entrance, moveable chairs and a hearing loop installed.

As mentioned above, this is merely a starting point, if you have challenges which can not be overcome with the above resources then please do reach out as we’d love to work with you to enable you to attend.

Alongside this we run a monthly group called HIVE, which is aimed specifically at children (of any age) with additional needs and their families. For more information about HIVE please click HERE
