St Mary’s Eaton Socon members contribute to the life and work of the church in so many different ways. Whilst the information below relates to financial giving, other pages on this website talk about the wide range of ministries the church is actively involved in – ministries that are resourced through the generosity of people’s time, so can we encourage you to explore all that’s on offer!

Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand

1 Chronicles 29:14b

As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of all that God has given us – this includes our time, resources, gifts and money.

Christians are called by God to give to the work of His church as an expression of our thanks to God for all He has done for us and all that he has given us.

On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income.

1 Corinthians 16:2

giving-peopleGiving should always be proportionate to what God has given us and should be given first before anything else. This is what Scripture calls the ‘firstfruits’ or the best of what we have, rather than what’s leftover.

The concept of a ‘tithe’ whereby 10% of income is given to God is widely accepted throughout Scripture. Tithing to God through the local church enables us all to be effective in our worship, work and witness. St Mary’s follows this principle by giving away at least 10% of all that we receive to support God’s work in the world – this we use to support our Mission Partners.
