Coming together to worship God is one of the essentials of the Christian life. In addition to our weekday worship opportunities, we offer two weekly Sunday morning services – 9am & 10.30am. The general rule is the later the service, the more informal it is! Once a month we also offer an early morning BCP Communion service at 8am.
On the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings of each month (during Term Time), we offer an evening programme which consists of Life Together and Taizé.
For more information about all these services, please click on the boxes below.
8.00am BCP Holy Communion (1st Sunday of each month)
Held on the first Sunday of the month, this quiet and reflective service uses the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and lasts for about 40 minutes.
9.00am Holy Communion (weekly)
More traditional in nature, this service uses the standard ‘Common Worship’ services. Music is accompanied by organ, viola and robed choir. Morning Prayer is usually held on the 1st Sunday and lasts around an hour. Our service finishes with refreshments in the Church Hall.
10.30am Morning Worship (weekly)
Contemporary, lively and family friendly, this is our informal Sunday service. Accompanied by our music group, the young people usually join us for the first part of the service, before going to their groups. Each service lasts up to 1½ hours, and concludes with refreshments in the Church. Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday in each month.
Sundays @ 6
Held twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Sundays during Term Time, our evening programme starts at 6pm, finishes by 7.15pm and looks like this:
1st Sunday: Life Together is an opportunity to go deeper into God’s Word.
On the first Sunday of each month, join us as Rev Ray Porter and Dr Julie Robb unlock themes and important teaching from the Bible to help us navigate through life in the 21st century.
Here's what we're looking at in 2017:
5th February 1&2 Timothy
5th March James
2nd April Ecclesiastes
7th May 1&2 Thessalonians
4th June Song of Solomon
2nd July Micah and Nahum
We take a break in August & September to enjoy sun and Afternoon Tea!
1st October Habakkuk and Zephaniah
*12th November Amos and Obadiah (held on the 2nd Sunday in November)
3rd December Zechariah
3rd Sunday: A monthly Meditative Taizé Service, using chants and silence.
Prayer and silence are at the heart of our monthly Taizé services at St Mary’s. Modelled on the worship of the Taizé community in France, our services involve sung prayers, meditation, periods of silence and Bible readings. There is no leader and no sermon. Anyone is welcome to join one of our Taizé services and you are invited to stand, sit or kneel as you wish. Services usually last around an hour.
